Charles 'Bud' Wellington Thorne Jr. VERO BEACH, FL - Charles "Bud" Wellington Thorne Jr. died Wednesday, May 25, 2011, at Hospice House in Vero Beach, FL. Mr. Thorne was born June 8, 1927, in Trenton, NJ, to Charles Wellington Thorne and Helen Young Thorne. He resided in Trenton, West Trenton, and Yardley, PA, prior to moving to Vero Beach in 1995. Mr. Thorne graduated from Trenton High School in 1944, and Dartmouth College in 1948, where he was a member of Beta Theta Pi fraternity, and the Sphinx Honorary Society. Mr. Thorne was a partner and professional planner with the architectural firm Faridy Thorne Fraytak, retiring in 1994. He was a former member and past president of the Trenton Country Club, and a current member of the Moorings Club in Vero Beach, FL, where he also served on the board of directors. Mr. Thorne was also a past president of the Ewing Township Board of Education, and a board member and trustee of the Friends of the New Jersey State Museum. Married to Jayne Leavitt Thorne on Nov. 11, 1951, Mr. Thorne is survived by his wife, Jayne; daughters, Wendy Thorne Niederer (Thomas), and Helen "Bambi" Thorne Kuhl (Paul); sons, Charles "Wells" Wellington Thorne III, and Timothy Mackay Thorne; four grandchildren, Duncan Thomas Niederer, Nathaniel Woodward Niederer, Brady Dunbar Niederer, and Katharine Roberts Kuhl; four great-grandchildren; nieces, Jane Ellen Barlow and Elizabeth Thorne Barlow, and Chloe. He was predeceased by his parents; daughter, Julia Kraft Thorne; his sister, Jane Thorne Barlow, and nephew, George Herbert Barlow III. Funeral services will be held at Trinity Cathedral, 801 W. State St. in Trenton, NJ, on Thursday, June 2, 2011. "Arthur B. Toovey, 84, of Oceano, passed away peacefully Sunday, Feb. 18, 2007.
Visitation will be from 1 to 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 23, 2007, at Marshall- Spoo Sunset Funeral Chapel in Grover Beach. Services will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 24, 2007, in the mortuary chapel.
Arthur "Art" was born Aug. 25, 1922, to Samuel and Thelma Toovey in Long Beach, Calif. He was their only child and pride and joy. The first several years of Arthur's life were spent moving from town to town in California, where Samuel followed work in the oil fields working for Standard Oil. The family finally settled in Lemoore, where Arthur graduated from Lemoore High School in 1941.
After graduation Arthur began his enlistment with the US Marine Corps. During his tour he served with C Company 3rd Marine Tank Battalion.
Arthur was wounded in action and was awarded the Purple Heart in Guam in 1944. He also served in Iwo Jima in 1945.
Arthur completed his duty as a butcher and this is where he developed his love for cooking.Arthur was extremely proud of serving his country as a Marine. He enjoyed attending reunions and maintained friendships with the men he served, even through his later years.
On July 5, 1948,Arthur married Mary Avila of Lemoore. On March 3, 1950, the blessing of son Stephen arrived. Arthur followed in his father's footsteps and began his career with Standard Oil in 1951. Sadly, Mary died of cancer in 1960 and soon after, Arthur and Stephen moved to Bakersfield, Calif., into the home of his parents, Samuel and Thelma.
In January 1968 Arthur married Donna May Goodrich.Arthur gained a daughter-in-law, Geraldine Koelzer, who married Stephen in 1971.Arthur found much joy in becoming a grandfather, "Papa Chow," to granddaughters, Dana and Kelly.
After 30 years of service, Arthur retired from Standard Oil in 1981. He and Donna enjoyed traveling in their fifth wheel and especially loved trips to Truckee, Calif., and to the coast with friends, their granddaughters and traveling companions. Arthur's father Samuel passed away in 1988 and he then lost his wife Donna in 1990 after a sudden illness.Arthur spent his time checking in on his elderly mother Thelma.
After having been widowed for the second time, a wonderful woman, Imogene Cantrell, was introduced into Arthur's life and family. This was truly a blessing for Arthur and his family. They were soon married and especially enjoyed golfing, dancing and traveling. After the loss of Arthur's mother Thelma in 1997,Arthur and Imogene made the decision to move to Oceano to be near Imogene's children.
In June 1999 Arthur suffered another loss in his life. This time it was the loss of his only son Stephen. This was devastating to Arthur. He received much love and support from his wife Imogene and her childen and extended family.
Arthur is survived by his wife Imogene Cantrell Toovey of Oceano; granddaughter Kelly Toovey of Van Nuys, Calif.; granddaughter Dana Mele and husband Tim of Nampa, Idaho; daughter-in-law Geraldine Toovey of Bakersfield, Calif.; Imogene's daughter Jeanene Chase Hedger and husband Jim of Grover Beach; daughter Sue Joseph and husband Jack of Oceano and Imogene's extended family.
Preceding Arthur in death was his son, Stephen; parents, Samuel and Thelma; and wives, Mary and Donna.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the American Heart Association.

Imogene Cantrell Toovey, born on October 21, 1915 in Stillwater, OK. to John Mapel and Bessie Holland, passed away peacefully at her home in Oceano, CA on June 10, 2008. She met and married Troy Cantrell in Arkansas in 1931; they had two daughters before moving to California in 1940, where they settled in the L.A. area. The family relocated to Bakersfield, CA in 1949. She was very busy raising her family and was very active in the First Baptist Church, the NOR Women's Club, she enjoyed golf, bowling and traveling. She lost her husband, Troy Cantrell, in 1979, and eventually remarried Arthur Toovey in 1993. They moved to Oceano, CA. in 2002 to be with her two daughters. She enjoyed many family functions and attended The New Life Church in Pismo Beach.
She will be missed greatly by all who knew and loved her. She was preceded in death by her sister, Marguerite (Babe) McDole in 1958; first husband, Troy Cantrell in 1979; sister, Modene Coale in 2001; her late husband, Arthur Toovey; and daughter, Dolores Sue Joseph, both in 2007. She is survived by her devoted and loving daughter, Jeanene Chase Hedger and husband, Jim of Grover Beach, CA; and son-in-law, Jack Joseph of Oceano, CA; granddaughters, Vicki Ramos of Arroyo Grande, CA, Janelle Cravins Dockham and husband, Chris of Bakersfield, CA; grandsons, Scott Myrick and wife, Annette of Naciemento Lake, CA, Randy Myrick and wife, Kellie of Nipomo, CA; nieces, Joye King and husband, Norm of Lodi, CA, Sandy Warner of Santa Rosa, CA, Roberta (Bobbi) Sanderson of Walnut, CA, Cindy Greer of Whittier CA; nephew, Michael (Mick) Ramsay of Santa Rosa, CA.
