195. Gertie Misener (Sarah Ann Campbell , Williamson , William L. ) was born on 13 Mar 1879 in Riverdale, Sumner, Kansas, USA. She died on 26 Dec 1957 in Bluff, Sumner, Kansas, USA. She was buried in Caldwell City Cemetery, Caldwell, Sumner, Kansas, USA.

Mrs. Sears Dies At Home of Son Rites Sunday

Final tribute was paid Sunday afternoon at two-thirty o'clock to Mrs. Gertie Sears, 78, life time resident of this community. Mrs. Sears was found dead in bed about eight o'clock Thursday morning at the home of her son, Charles Sears, route one, Caldwell.

Dr. B. J. Myers, Sumner County Coroner was called to make an investigation. He reported that her death was due to a coronary condition. She had been making her home with her son recently. Other county officers called from Wellington to aid in the investigation were Elmer M. Holt, sheriff, and Lewis Nugen, county attorney.

Officiating at the final services for Mrs. Sears at Schaeffer's chapel were Rev. Okra Gaddis, former pastor of the Assembly of God church, and Rev. John Morar, present pastor. Singers were Mrs. Donald Ames and Mrs. Claude Shoffner, with Mrs. John Morar as organist.

Interment was in the Caldwell cemetery. Bearers were Donald Ames, Charles Prather, Pearl Farris, Basil Chapps, Jack Sprague and Rudolph Lebeda.

Mrs. Sears was born March 13, 1879 in Riverdale, Kansas, the daughter of Frank and Sarah Campbell Misener. Her husband Elmer Sears preceded her in death in 1920. Mrs. Sears was a practical nurse, often caring for elderly persons in her own home. Several years ago when George Gow inaugurated his "Good, Good Neighbor" program Mrs. Sears was one of the first persons named for the honor and to recieve an orchid for her many acts that went beyond the call of duty. Mrs. Sears was a member of the Assembly of God church.

She is survived by three sons, Charles Sears and George Sears of Caldwell, and Albert of El Campo, Texas; one sister, Mrs. Ada Whitsell of Caldwell; one brother, John Misener of Caldwell; four grandchildren and one great grandchild. A daughter, Effie Pearl preceded her in death on July 7, 1907.

Gertie married Elmer Luther Sears "Shep", son of John Lewis Sears and Lucy Mackay, on 20 Apr 1899 in Caldwell, Sumner Co Kansas. Shep was born on 6 Aug 1875 in , Whitley, Kentucky, USA. He died on 24 Aug 1920 in , , Colorado, USA from Throat Cancer. He was buried in Caldwell City Cemetery, Caldwell, Sumner, Kansas, USA.

George Sears
George Sears, son of Elmer L. & Gertie Sears, passed away at the District hospital, Caldwell, on September 3, 1968, at the age of 64 years, 9 months and 5 days.

He was born in Sumner County and spent all of his lifetime in this community. He engaged in farming as his occupation.

At Wellington, Kansas, on March 9, 1930, he was united in marriage to Miss Salona Kerns of Caldwell. They spent thier lives together on the farm which they enjoyed so much.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer L. Sears, one brother, Charley and one sister, Pearl.

Mr. Sears leaves in passing, his wife, Salona, of Caldwell; one brother, Albert, El Camp, Texas; and one aunt, Mrs. Ada Whitesell, Caldwell; besides other relatives and friends.

Although Mr. Sears was not a member of any church he had accepted Christ as his Saviour and always welcomed prayer and an encouraging word to help him during his time of suffering.

Final tribute was paid Mr. Sears on Saturday, September 7, at 10 a.m., in Schaeffer's Chapel. Rev. Charles Boshell, pastor of the Assembly of God Church, officiated. Organist was Mrs. Glenn Harris. Soloist, was Darrell Bruner.

Interment was in the Caldwell Cemetery. Bearers were Lawrence Conrady, Francis Conrady, Vlada Volavka, Joe Herbert, Gayle York, and Kerris Powell.

        George married Salona Florence Kerns, daughter of Josiah Kerns and Mary Catherine West, on 9 Mar 1930 in Wellington, Sumner, Kansas, USA. Salona was born 1 on 23 Feb 1910 in Caldwell, Sumner, Kansas, USA. She died 2 on 15 Jul 1992 in Caldwell, Sumner, Kansas, USA. She was buried on 17 Jul 1992 in Caldwell City Cemetery, Caldwell, Sumner, Kansas, USA.



Salona Kerns Sears was born February 23, 1910, in Caldwell, Kansas, the daughter of Josiah and Mary Kerns. She passed away, July 15, 1992, at Hospital District #1 in Caldwell.

Salona was born, raised, and lived in the Caldwell area all her life. She graduated Caldwell High School; married her husband, George Sears in Caldwell; and attended the Assembly of God in Caldwell. She moved to town from the farm after the death of her husband in 1968.

Salona and George were married on March 9, 1930. They farmed together for many years. Salona was happy in her role as homemaker and helpmate. She loved the farm and enjoyed gardening and canning. Later in life, she worked for the Hospital in Caldwell.

Salona was a skilled seamstress. She especially enjoyed embroidery, tatting, and made excellent quilts. She received much joy from being a part of the Women's Ministries group at church who used to gather to quilt.

Reading was a big part of Salona's life. She read the Bible daily - all it takes is a look at her well worn Bible to see that. She loved reading the Pentecostal Evangel weekly magazine and Church bulletin. She kept a daily journal of weather , news, and other information that she thought interesting. She even recorded their very first televison - May 1, 1950.

Salona was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and by three brothers, Arthur, Meritt, and Earnest; and one sister, Mable Kerns-Butterworth. She is survived by several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. Friday, July 17, 1992 in the Elliott-Schaeffer Mortuary Chapel with Rev. Rick Burcham officiating. Mrs. Virginia Burcham sang "How Great Thou Art" and "In The Garden" accompanied by Mrs. Sue Harris, organist.

Casket bearers were Darrell Bruner, Gayle York, Kerris Powell, Vlada Volavka, Lawrence Conrady, and Glenn Barber. Interment was in the Caldwell City Cemetery.

A memorial has been established in memory of Salona with the Hospital District #1 of Caldwell.

- Anna Sears Anna Florence Sears of El Campo died Sunday, May 16, 2004 at the age of 83. She was born Feb. 28, 1921 in Ralls to Edward Steffen and Mable Phelps Steffen. Mrs. Sears was an oil gauger and rancher for many years. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Albert “Red” Sears; and two brothers, James H. Steffen and Paul Steffen. Visitation began at 5 p.m. Monday at Triska Funeral Home. Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 18 with the Rev. Rick DuBroc officiating. Burial was at the Alvin Confederate Cemetery. Pallbearers were Gary Heimann, Lawrence Kana, Steve Klingman, Bobby Garcia, Jimmy Roehl and John Luco. Honorary pallbearers were Billy Alton and Cedric Popp. Memorials may be made to the SPCA or to the American Cancer Society.
