By Helen Campbell BradyHenry Campbell was badly crippled with arthritis in his legs. He had a fantastic garden. He would lie on his stomack and pull himself along by his elbows. He loved movies and vaudville. He would go to the matinees and stay until dark when he got too hungry to stay longer. When he got mad at me he would yell "thee stop that". That was the only time he showed his Quaker back ground. He often came to babysit us when our parents were out. He was a piano mover when he came to Los Angeles. He often made a good deal but could not save any for the next month. My father worked at an early age selling papers etc. He knew Los Angeles when it wasn't much more than a village Grandpa was killed trying to cross the tracks of the "Red Cars" There were multiple tracks and he was hit by a fast street car.
I remember Grandma Brady also mentioning the time she was climbing in her Grandfathers plum tree and he became flustered and said " get thee down from thee tree get thee down from the tree".

Grandma Addie Campbell
By Helen Campbell BradyGrandma was deaf from the time she was in her early twentys. As the new words came into being she never learned to say them (ie, radio) She was not a very good housekeeper, but she liked to wash clothes. My Aunt Irma told me, when she was a girl and went to spend the night with my aunt Agnes, they had to hide their clothes of Grandma would get up early and wash, and they would have to stay in bed until their clothes dried. Once when she was old and my grandfather was dead, she was arrested because she washed the clothes of a neighborhood child who was always dirty. My Dad had to go to court and explain to the judge. My father supported his mother and father. He had to give them the money weekly or it was all gone before the month was out. Grandma was a good cook and I remember lots of dinners at her house. She developed diabetes and would come to our house so my Dad could give her insulin shots. My mother kept her on her diet. When she was feeling better she would go home and eat as she pleased. Later she died in a diabetic coma.
